:: Greenways Cycle Route :: Haute-Savoie's Cycling Policy
A wide range of cycling options
Haute-Savoie has had a long love affair with cycling
« Whether climbing, descending, and even on flat surfaces ».
By a resolution on 19 December 2000, the Haute-Savoie General Council decided on a plan for the département’s cycling infrastructure.
The General Council helps you to get going on 2 wheels
If you are a cycling, mountain biking or hybrid biking enthusiast
If you enjoy cycling for sport, leisure or family time…
If you enjoy lake shores, mountain passes, high mountain pastures, forest trails…
Ride at your own pace
Nearly 90km of cycle routes have been created […] 50km of which are dedicated Greenways.
As part of the département-wide plan for improving the cycling infrastructure, “Haute-Savoie Greenways Cycle Routes”, in December of 2006, the General Council adopted a new plan of action for 2007-2011, in line with the overall goals of the project:
- To promote the use of bicycles as a means of short-distance transportation
- To support the development of leisure activities
- To make cycling safer
- To support tourism in Haute-Savoie
- To bring together all initiatives to create a unified network
These goals translate into five actions:
- Create cycling infrastructure on departmental roads (all roads beginning with a D)
- Develop marked cycle tourism trails
- Establish dedicated Greenways
- Create cycling infrastructure for mountain and hybrid bikes
- Offer assistance to municipalities

The goal over the next 10 years is to create a 300km, cycle-accessible network of low-traffic roads, cycle paths and cycle lanes, and Greenways.
