The General Council is actively involved in the creation of the Greenways and cycle routes.
However, this scheme was also considered as a means for developing tourism in the territories that the routes cross, and even to attract those who come into the area for better-known tourist locations, such as the shores of Lake Geneva or Mont-Blanc.
The Greenways cycle routes currently being created in the Vallée de l’Arve is the Lake Geneva – Mont-Blanc cycle route and along Lake Geneva is the Southern Shore Lake Geneva cycle route. These two cycle routes will serve well-known tourist areas such as the Haute Vallée de l’Arve with a route leading to Sallanches-Passy opposite Mont-Blanc, as well as the southern shore of Lake Geneva featuring the medieval villages of Yvoire and Nernier, and the beaches at Excenevex and Thonon les Bains.
These projects are based in the largest valleys in the département and make up the framework for all Haute-Savoie, allowing municipalities to introduce their own cycle routes so as to eventually create a network throughout the area.
